Contextual Fit
Analysis & Design
In this project we were asked to add an addition to the Smith House which was originally built in 1965 by Richard Meier. We were asked to make sure that the addition follows the original patterns and systems of the existing floor plan and layout. While adding the additions we needed to consider conceptual analogies in order to meet the new owners wants and needs.
Narrative
The famous Smith House is now under near ownership and the new owners are looking to have some new additions added to the existing floor plan. This new family is very big on family time and being together. One of the new additions they are asking for is a big family room to be able to spend time with each other. One of the other additions they are asking for is master bedroom retreat with walk in closets and a luxurious bathroom. As much as these owners cherish family time, they want to be able close the doors and be in their own sanctuary to be able to relax. The next space is an exercise room. They are very big into being active and fit. The owners used to be former gymnasts. They want to maintain their strength and make sure their kids stay active as well. The last space they are asking for is an outdoor space. Just like the family room they are very big entertainers and want to be able to host outdoor events and gathering for their kids and family.
